Why I Built Eravoo: Creating a childhood rooted in wonder, not pressure

— Vaishnavee Eishwar Maanay, Founder, Eravoo Centre of Learning

When parents search for the best preschool in Bangalore, they’re often looking for safety, academics, structure, and outcomes.

When I built Eravoo, I was searching for something else entirely.

I was searching for wonder.

The question that stayed with me

Across my years as an educator, design thinking mentor, and a mother, one question kept returning to me:

Why are we in such a hurry with childhood?

Somewhere along the way, curiosity began to feel like distraction.

Messiness began to feel like lack of discipline.

Questions began to feel like interruptions.

And very early in life, children started sensing something dangerous:

That they were being judged

Judged for how fast they spoke.

Judged for how neatly they coloured.

Judged for how quickly they learned letters, numbers, and rules.

I knew I wanted to create a different beginning.

Eravoo was born from a pause

Eravoo wasn’t born from a business plan.

It was born from a pause — a deep, uncomfortable pause — where I asked myself:

The word Eravoo comes from Era (Earth) and Voo (Essence of Life).

It reflects what I believe childhood should be — grounded, alive, and deeply human.

Curiosity without judgement

At Eravoo, curiosity is not something we “manage.”

It is something we protect.

Children here are encouraged to ask questions without worrying about right or wrong answers.

To explore materials without being rushed to “finish.”

To express emotions without being corrected into silence.

There are no labels of fast, slow, bright, or behind.

Because the moment we label a child, we narrow them.

Instead, we observe.

We listen.

We respond.

This is where my background in design thinking deeply influences Eravoo — empathy before solutions, understanding before instruction, and human experience before outcomes.

A preschool that feels like a safe world

When parents visit Eravoo, they often say,

“This place feels calm.”

We introduce language, numbers, and concepts through life — not worksheets.

Numbers appear while measuring ingredients in our culinary lab.

Language grows through stories children narrate themselves.

Problem-solving happens when peers negotiate, wait, share, and disagree.

This is not accidental learning.

It is intentional, research-backed, and deeply respectful of how young children actually learn.

Why Eravoo matters today

In a city like Bangalore — full of opportunity, ambition, and speed — childhood needs anchors.

Eravoo is that anchor.

A place where children don’t have to perform to belong.

Where learning is joyful, not forced.

Where childhood is not treated as a race to the future, but as a foundation for life.

My hope for every Eravoo child

My hope is simple:

That children leave Eravoo still curious.

Still kind.

Still unafraid to ask questions.

Still trusting themselves.

Because when childhood is rooted in wonder —

Everything else follows.
